HISTORY

The Beginnings of RectorSeal

The company was established in 1937 in Houston, Texas, as a division of Rector Well Equipment Company of Fort Worth, Texas. RectorSeal’s initial product was a thread sealant (RectorSeal No.1) for oil field threaded fittings.

Entry into the Trades

In the 1950s, RectorSeal invented RectorSeal No.5 and became an established manufacturer and distributor to the plumbing industry. RectorSeal No.5 rapidly became the thread sealant of choice for plumbers across North America.

RectorSeal’s continued growth led to the company’s acquisition in 1969 by Capital Southwest Corporation, a publicly held company headquartered in Dallas, Texas.

Development of Firestop

In 1991, RectorSeal acquired Metacaulk, a leader in the firestopping industry. The acquisition helped accelerate RectorSeal’s strategy to manufacture and distribute a vast portfolio of high-quality and scalable building-related safety solutions.

In 1995, an on-site fire test laboratory was built to conduct Underwriter Laboratories (UL) witnessed burns for through-penetration and construction joint assemblies. UL designated the RectorSeal fire lab for fire testing to UL 1479 & UL 2079 codes. Underwriter Laboratories is one of the oldest and most trusted safety certification companies.

Expansion into HVAC & Electrical and Continued Growth

With the company’s acquisition of Acid Away during the early 1990s, RectorSeal introduced a patented AC compressor burnout acid neutralizer. With an acquisition of Stewart Hall, RectorSeal gained access to a leading portfolio of coil cleaners and HVAC maintenance chemicals. The acquisition of Nokorode in the early 2000s allowed RectorSeal to expand its plumbing footprint. In addition, the company entered the electrical supplies marketplace through the acquisition of Wire Snagger.

To help accommodate its continued growth, RectorSeal moved to its current Houston headquarters in 1998. In addition, the new facility provided space to construct an integrated chemical lab, manufacturing operations, and a shipping department.

Distribution Centers

To support the company’s product growth, distribution facilities have been established at multiple U.S. locations, including California, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Texas. The strategic location of these facilities ensures timely and accurate delivery of products to all RectorSeal customers.

CSWI and Acquisition Strategy

In 2015, RectorSeal became part of CSW Industrials, Inc. [NASDAQ: CSWI], after Capital Southwest Corporation completed a tax-free spinoff of its successful manufacturing companies. CSWI is a diversified industrial growth company with industry-leading operations in three segments: Contractor Solutions, Engineered Building Solutions, and Specialized Reliability Solutions. (For more details about CSWI, visit CSWI.com.)

RectorSeal plays a leading role in CSWI’s Contractor Solutions segment and continues to grow and expand its product portfolio through an acquisition strategy that began in the 1990s.

In 2011, RectorSeal acquired Airtec, an HVAC mechanical and plastics manufacturer located in Fall River, Massachusetts.

The company’s acquisition program continued in 2021 when TRUaire became RectorSeal’s largest brand. TRUaire is a manufacturer of high-quality grilles, registers, and diffusers (GRD) for cooling, and ventilating installation, with the groundbreaking 100% power coating technology that’s prominent in the residential market.

In 2022, the company made several acquisitions, including Shoemaker Manufacturing in Cle Elum, Washington, in January, and Florida-based Cover Guard and AC GUARD, and California-based Falcon Stainless, Inc., in October. The Shoemaker acquisition further expanded RectorSeal’s leadership in the GRD marketplace because the Shoemaker brand is known for its legacy of top-quality GRD products and its agile process to accommodate commercial needs. The acquisitions of the Cover Guard and AC GUARD product lines further expanded the company’s offering of leading HVAC/R accessories, while the addition of Falcon’s flexible water and gas connectors supplemented the company’s existing portfolio of plumbing products.
